Avis Rankins

Avis was a Licensed Practical Nurse with the U.S. Army and retired as a Master Sergeant (E-8) from Fort Bragg (NC) in 2016.

Avis and her family were severely impacted by Hurricane Florence in 2018. During recovery efforts, Avis began volunteering with Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity to assist families in the surrounding area of Fort Bragg by handling disaster recovery repair projects.

Because Habitat for Humanity was instrumental in getting her family and her neighbors back in their homes, Avis felt compelled to give back again by joining Habitat AmeriCorps as a Construction Crew Leader. During her two years of service, Avis supported the "Veterans Village" project, a nine-home cul-de-sac built for military veterans.

Avis is now an Assistant Construction Site Supervisor at Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity where she continues to support Veterans through the Veterans Build and Disaster Recovery programs.
