Veteran Build Season of Service

Updated: Nov 22

Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity, Veteran Build Season of Service (9/11- November 30th, 2024). Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity conducts a Veteran Build, Season of Service from 9/11 through November 30th, which includes Patriot Day, The National Day of the Deployed and Veteran’s Day.  We conduct as many Veteran Repairs as possible, as part of our Critical Home Repair Program, spearheaded by our FAHFH Construction Team and our staff, which includes seven Veterans and National Guard and Reserve soldiers.  Our program attempts to complete as many Veteran Repairs as possible utilizing local community sponsors, volunteers, and community partners to maximize the impact we can have on helping our Veteran population. In Cumberland County, that comprises between 17-20% of the population. Our esteemed and generous sponsors and donors generated over $20,000 to support Veteran Repairs.

Repairs conducted this year for Veteran Build Season of Service 2024 included two roof repairs, three egress/entryway decks and railings, two window replacements for weatherization and energy efficiency, and other general critical home repairs for safety, accessibility, mobility, and health factors supporting concepts with Aging in Place, disabled Veteran population, and ADA modifications. This allows Veterans to stay safely in their homes and improve their quality of life.

FAHFH commemorated this Season of Service with a 9/11 Patriot Day Remembrance Display Table in our ReStore, to honor and never forget our heroes who served and continue to serve from that day.

FAHFH also provided a Veteran’s Day Missing Man table, displayed in our ReStore from 1-30 November.  This is also known as a Fallen Comrade Table, which is a memorial and ceremony that honors military service members who are missing, imprisoned, or have died.

Please view our Season of Service Veteran Build Event video, created by Kadeem Booth covering Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity’s “Brush With Kindness” and Veteran Build Repair Event on 306 Maloney for our October event:

FAHFH, with the local community volunteers and sponsors, completed the following Veteran Repairs in 2024 during our Season of Service:

Bluman Rd. Project

Kirkland Ave. Project

Shiloh Dr. Project

Newland Cr. Project

Augusta Dr. Project

Maloney Ave. Project

98th Civil Affairs BN and The Givens Family. Bluman Rd. Project

Volunteers: Our Community stepped up to aid our local Veterans with Volunteer statistics with a total of 69 Volunteers (many repeating events) for a total of 320 hours. When calculated for cost, these volunteer hours saved FAHFH a value of $6400.00, allowing us to stretch our monetary and gift-in-kind (material) donations to complete several of our repairs!

Volunteer of the Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity, Veteran Build Season of Service Award- Lowell Greenberg (98th Civil Affairs (CA), Fort Liberty, NC); participated in all three Veteran Build Events, donating 30 hours on his personal time to support our Season of Service.  Lowell also brought six teammates out over the course of the Season, adding an additional 18 hours of volunteer capacity to our mission.  Lowell is a true force multiplier and brought his painting skills, repair knowledge, amazing work ethic, and professionalism to our events. The Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity staff of 7 Veterans greatly appreciate this active-duty service member offering his time and expertise to help Veterans in our community in need of home repairs.

Sponsors and Donors:

We would love to thank our Veteran Build Sponsors and Donors, as our Veteran Build Event could not occur without your support. With your donations, we raised over $20,500.00 to combine with Veteran Grants to complete our local Veteran Repairs!! You are greatly appreciated and the support you provide is immeasurable!
