Once approved, Habitat partner families are able to purchase and live in a Habitat home valued at approx. $90,000 with low monthly mortgage payments.

Habitat homes are sold at cost, with 20-25 year interest free mortgages. Currently the mortgage payment on a three-bedroom Habitat house is approximately $500.00 a month. This payment includes property taxes, homeowner’s insurance and termite coverage. Homeowners are selected based on their need for decent, affordable housing, ability to afford a monthly mortgage payment and willingness to partner in building houses with Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity.

During selection periods, applicants must meet specific requirements, like a need for housing, the ability to pay a mortgage, and a willingness to partner with 300 sweat equity hours of volunteer work on their future home. Partner family selections are made in compliance with the Federal Credit Equal Opportunity Act on an impartial and non-discriminatory basis. Race, color, national origin, marital status, familial status, sexual orientation, age, religion and disability play no part in the choice.

Our standard three-bedroom home is 1060 square feet and our standard four-bedroom home is 1200 square feet. Home sizes are based on each qualifying family’s needs. All homes are furnished with a new range and refrigerator with ice maker.


Do you Qualify?

Ask yourself the following questions to see if the Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity Homeowner Process is for you-

  • Have I been a resident of Cumberland or Sampson counties or employed in Cumberland or Sampson counties for 1 year or more?
  • Does my annual combined family income meet the “low income” guidelines according to HUD based on family size?

  • Do I and/or my family currently live in substandard housing?
  • Can I afford a monthly payment of approximately $450.00?
  • Am I able to make an estimated initial Escrow deposit of $800.00 or more, at the time of closing on my Habitat home?
  • Do I pay my bills on time?

Am I willing to be a good partner with Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity by:

  • Agreeing to attend a home ownership seminar before completing the application?
  • Working a total of 300 hours of Sweat Equity, which is time spent on my own home, as well as other Habitat homes?
  • Participating in a home ownership process that requires a period of 9 to 15 months to complete?

You will need to return the second page of the Pre-Application in order to get signed up for an Orientation Meeting.  You can return your completed Pre-Application in one of the following ways:

  3. Mail it to our office or fax it to 910-486-5472 Attn:  Chaly Cross, Homeowner Services Director

Once we receive your completed Pre-Application, we will work with you to sign up for an Orientation Meeting.  If your Pre-Application lists an applicant and a co-applicant, both must attend the meeting.  Pre-registration for these meetings is required, and childcare is not provided.
