Fayetteville fire, police team up with Habitat to burn a house – for a good reason

Habitat for Humanity is in the business of building homes, not destroying them.

But in the case of a house at 224 Hedgepeth St., off Southern Avenue in the Massey Hill neighborhood, that’s what the organization did – with the help of the Fayetteville Fire Department.

“We work with existing assets and it’s an asset,” said Tammy Laurence, Habitat’s executive director.

Three fires were started in Wednesday afternoon in the old, four-bedroom, two-bathroom house.
