FAHFH Observes World Habitat Day with Parade of Doors

Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity (FAHFH) is asking area supporters to raise awareness of Habitat’s vision that everyone deserves a decent place to live by participating in World Habitat Day on October 5, 2105, with a door display.

“The parade of doors is a fun and creative way for everyone to show their support of Habitat’s mission and vision,” said Tammy Laurence, FAHFH executive director. “Community organizations, churches, and other nonprofits that may not have the time or the funds to contribute can participate in the symbolism of opening the doors to homeownership.”
World Habitat Day is observed every year on the first Monday of October throughout the world. It was officially designated by the United Nations and first celebrated in 1986. The purpose of the day is to reflect on the state of our cities and towns and the basic human right to adequate shelter.

Participants can decorate a common household door in the following ways-
• Create a theme.
• Reflect your local flavor or spirit.
• Include key housing facts and figures, the habitat website, social media hashtags and social media handles on the door.
• Include the Habitat for Humanity logo and/or colors.
• Place your freestanding, decorated door (with proper permission) in highly-trafficked areas where the door can be easily seen by passersby beginning the week prior to October 5, 2015.

Doors should be displayed in respective places of business, either by the street, in a lobby or foyer, in an adjoining public space, etc., to illustrate Habitat’s mission.

The doors and door stands are FREE to participants and can be picked up at our Habitat ReStore at 3833 Bragg Blvd., on the corner of Bargain St. and Bragg Blvd., after Wednesday, September 10.
